If your AC blows hot air rather than providing you with relief on a summer day in St. Simons Island, GA, your home can become uncomfortable. There can be several reasons for this issue. We’ll explain why your air conditioner may be blowing hot air and how to resolve the problem.
Wrong Thermostat Settings
Make sure your thermostat is in Cool mode and the temperature you set is lower than the current room temperature. Incorrect settings can cause your AC to blow hot air. Also, replace the thermostat’s batteries if it uses batteries and they’re low.
Dirty Air Filter
A clogged air filter makes it difficult for air to flow through your air conditioner. This makes your system work harder and reduces its ability to adequately cool your home.
Check your air filter monthly, and replace or clean it every one to three months, as needed. A clean air filter allows for optimal airflow to help your AC run efficiently.
Low Refrigerant Levels
Refrigerant is the lifeblood of your AC system. It absorbs heat from your home and releases it outside. Low refrigerant levels will diminish the cooling ability of your system.
Call a trained HVAC technician for a diagnosis and repair if you suspect low refrigerant. Only a professional can safely add refrigerant, so don’t try to do this on your own.
Frozen Coils
Extremely humid conditions can cause ice to accumulate on the evaporator coil. This ice buildup stops the coil from absorbing heat and leads to warm air blowing from the vents.
Turn off your system and allow the ice to melt on its own. If your AC freezes a lot, one of our skilled HVAC technicians can identify the cause.
If your AC still blows hot air even after you try the above steps, it’s time to reach out for help. Call The A/C Guys for an AC repair straight away.
